Sure, put a bunch of Saabs next to a bunch of Toyotas (or other econoboxes) and you'll see a difference in maintenance costs and problem frequency/severity. But one of you said that you would never buy a Mercedes-Benz again -- well that's nice, but I know people who will never buy anything BUT a Mercedes-Benz because of their fabulous experiences with the cars. And I'm sure there are also people out there who refuse to ever buy Audis, Nissans, Fords etc. ever again. It really depends on so many millions of factors (like where you live, how you drive, your tolerance for issues, and how well your particular car was put together) that you just can't make gross sweeping generalizations about automobile manufacturers and brands. YES, I recognize that some cars are statistically more reliable than others, and certainly, specific brands MAY have lower maintenance costs than others. But I have had friends with Saabs -- both older and newer models -- that have NEVER had any outstanding problems and their costs remain low; definitely not problems or costs that would merit deeming the car or the brand "bad," or warrant a vow to never buy a certain brand again. It all depends, guys. It all depends. People can say "Saabs are engineering nightmares!" or "Ford? Yeah that stands for 'Fix Or Repair Daily" or "Subaru? Eeek! SubaPOO!" or "Nissans suck!" etc etc etc all they want, but you can't pinpoint this stuff. Some people have good experiences, some people have bad experiences. It all depends.
