Although I'm a big fan of "the Tire", I would not take what they say about any SAAB as gospel. I would invest in an ohmmeter and do the check per BillD's advice first. The guys at Canadian Tire have a tendency to be generalists and make the easy answer first. I would be willing to bet that they did not bother to check the resistance of the sender. They probably checked for continuity and then assumed that the instrutment was bad. That's also assuming that they knew which sender to check.
By the way, are you in the GTA or out a bit. Those outlying stores, like here in North Bay, do a great job on your standard Fords, GMs, etc. but things like SAABs and Audi really throw them a curve.
