The biggest problem I had is engaging the tool all the way into the hex slot. Make sure you clean it out....dirt and junk will accumulate in it. It should go in at least 2.5cm (1/2 inch). I think most people strip it b/c they don't have the tool into the plug all the way. I honestly don't see how you could strip it out if you are seated all the way in. However, you could break off your tool in it.
Its tough to clear the subframe too. I ended up grinding down an allen wrench to be shorter so I could fit between the plug and the subframe. I then used a piece of pipe to slide over the end of the allen (hex) key to extend my leverage. It came loose immediately, but with some force.
Heat is a good option if you can't get it on the first few tries. I would use a Propane torch or better yet, acetylene. Remember, heat the entire area. I doubt a soldering iron would distribute enough heat.
Hope this helps,
Nick
