Thank you Nigel, Dean and REM for all of your help. I realize I'm a complete novice here. I guess considering that the dealer did the 65K service (but at 60K) and that a pre-purchase inspection was done that revealed only the need for new front brake pads (which he put in) and that the clutch was worn (which his mechanic, the dealer, who is actually a very honest guy) told him did not yet need to be replaced (I checked it - it's not slipping), that I can relax a bit. I just want to start off on the right foot. In a way I wish I could have started off with the major service although it's nice not to have to pay for it!
A note - info from this BB about how to reset the CD changer WORKED! Just turning the radio on and jabbing Fuse 13 in and out a few times. Incredible! The dealer told my friend that an audio specialist had to 'rebalance' the CD player. A few more questions and I'm out of your hair:
(1) I don't own any auto tools but am planning on purchasing some soon. What is the minimum (I'm broke) that I would need in order to:
- change oil
- replace plugs (so on turbo there's no cap, rotor, wires? why not?)
- replace air filter
- replace cabin air filter.
(2) isn't it dangerous to switch to synthetic because it could cause my engine to leak? I've read several threads about this...
(3) It looks as if my manual transmission oil was changed 5K ago at that major check up... but not to synthetic. I've read a lot of people talking about Redline MTL synthetic trans oil as making the clutch feel great. Is it worth it for me to switch or not really. Bear in mind I'm not a hardcore car enthusiast, just a regular gal.
Again, it's a 96 900SE Turbo.
Gracias,
Betsey
