You original tires have a 140 wear rating which provided good wet and try traction. However, they will have age hardened quite a bit by now which explains in part your high miles.
My only advice is to get lower wear rated tires if you want the best traction. High speed ratings do not tell you anything about the tread compounds properties such as wet traction. Tires that have high wear ratings will not perform well in the wet compared to low tread wear rated tires. Some tires that look like good rain tires, which have higher wear ratings, will slide like crazy in a cold fall rain. If not in the first year, then perhaps in the second as the tire matures.
I would not consider a tire with a wear rating above 220. I prefer 140 but that really restricts choices. I am driving with 180's at present.
You can look for wheels on the SaabNet classifieds. There are also SaabNet sponsors who straighten and rebuild these wheels. The wheels bent too easily. Tire pressures of 35 to 38 psi provide better protection from bent rims, and improve handling, but you need to find the tradeoff with harshness etc that you can live with.
