Yuk. Poop! Yuk!!!

1996 900 - Crank Crank Crank Start... Whir ....engine dies. [CE light never got a chance to go off, but it stays on normally for 5 seconds anyway until the engine is running good]

[again]
Crank crank crank.. start....rev....die...4 seconds running

[again]
crank start rev die....1 second running...die.

fuel gage shows 3/4 full good.
took out air filter to make sure it could breath same thing.

start. rev. die. 1 to 2 seconds of life.

if it were a fouled plug, the others should still fire...and it wasn't running rough yesterday or the day before or any day since i've owned it or since the last major service (2 months ago or so). But the ability to start indicates plugs must be working. Just no gas.

if it were a clogged injector. same thing. it might run rough, but unless ALL of them were completely clogged, some gas should be spitting out in the chamber.

same guess again re: o2 sensors. maybe a bad reading gives the computer bad data and the mix is not good, but still you would expect rough, not TOTAL CUT OUT after start.

So, i'm guessing its got to be a fuel pump/relay/line thing. I can't drop the tank or anything like that. So i guess i have to tow it back to the freakin' dealer and have him test the pressure throughout the line to find a drop or whatever. Can't wait to pay $300 for a new pump, $300 for diagnosis and labor and maybe another $200 for this and that valve and line and whatever...sheeeeeeooooot!

Thanks for letting me vent, and if you think of anything i could try before the weekend is out (of course everyone is closed this weekend, so I'll have to tow it there monday i guess) at least i'll have a couple days to stew...

blech.
Tom.
