You are absolutely correct in stating that porting/ceaning up the throttle body transition casting, removing the turbo 'silencer', modifying the airbox to a 3" inlet, or adding a sport exhaust will not increase the engine power by more than a couple HP. In my mind, these mods where never intended to increase the engine power.

The reason for these modifications is to allow the engine to breath a bit better. The result is smoother application of the available engine power, especially at higher RPMs. And perhaps some slight decrease in turbo lag but that is probably just wishful thinking. :O).

The Saab 4-cylinder turbo will not have the low-end torque of a V8 or the high revving ease of the Honda Vtec. I just try to enjoy the Saab engine for what it is, a small displacement, high performance, turbo-chargered engine that has reasonabe HP, a vey useful torque curve, offers good economy, and has a long typically trouble free life.

Now if I could just convince my wife that the Maserati 3200GT coupe would be a good replacement for the Saab, after all it too is a practical 4 seater....
