followup on the squeak/squeal noise Posted by saabgirlie [Email] (#155) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabgirlie) on Tue, 1 Oct 2002 14:02:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I spent a few hours at the mechanic today. He could not get my car to make the noise. In fact, the car only made the noise once during the 40min drive to the mechanic. I even tried to coax it by promising it some "really, really good gas", but my car was stubborn and kept quiet.
My mech showed me how to loosen the slack adjuster and he showed me the pullies. Nothing is rattling or loose. They spin. The fan isn't squeaking. The breaks don't have any kind of wear indicator on them.
So. He suggests to wait until its making the noise more consistently. It makes sense that he wants to hear the noise. I'm wondering if I should just pick up some replacement pullies and have them with me just in case. The one that is toward the top rear seems easy enough to switch, the one that is towards the middle, under air filter looks a lot more difficult to replace. There's not alot of room to work in there, even with my small hands. If I have to replace one, do I have to replace both or just the one thats failed?
Thanks for all your help you guys!
