The V6 engine in the 900 is widely used in European GM cars, (Opel and Vauxhall). It is built in the UK (near Liverpool), and aside from timing belt changes, is considered pretty bulletproof. It does not have the reputation for longevity which the Saab 4 cylinder engines have, but the board will show several instances of high mileage units, and a friend of mine has over 165k miles on this engine in an Opel Omega, with no problems.
Keeping on top of the timing cambelt is essential, as along with almost all multi valve, high performance engines, a snapped cambelt will destroy the engine. Saab recommend 65k changes. I would change at 50k to be safe.
