My Audio upgrade is almost done! Summary below and a Question!
I think I'm going to stick with the stock headunit for now - But I might change over after the holidays and ski season are over.
Anyway, since this is my first system I bought bargain Polk EX series II speakers for front and back on EBAY for about $250 total.. I have 6.5 Inch components in the two front locations and 6x9 mounted in the back. They sounds much better than stock units. my 900S had the blank holes in the doors.
I bought an MTX 4244 (55x4) amplifier at circuit city (I was ripped off I now know, but they threw away the box so I can't return it. They are online really cheap) They installed the front speakers for me and mounted the amp on the back of my passenger seat. They also broke my harth release switch in the door and some of those doorsill covers.
I hooked up a subwoofer I got for free to the rear channel, and wired the
cabin speakers all to the front channel in series, so they are at 8 ohms. which actually sounds pretty good since I dont like to go deaf.
I plan on getting a JL audio subwoofer and a seperate amp to power it eventually and maybe replacing the speakers with JL Audio as well (If i get a raise or something)
I saw a 9-3 with Kicker amps mounted on the side of the trunk near the tailights. Anyone know how this was done? I thought mounting on the seats was a good idea, but adjusting the amp is a pain and I'm worried my skis will hit it when I put them in the pass through.
Any ideas on how to mount the amp on the side there? It looks like some interior carpet and sheet metal in my '96.
Thanks, Steve
