I have a 96 900SET and the car does have turbo lag, but nothing like your experience. The car has enough scoot down low to pull to the point where boost comes on. Remember, this is the 185hp engine, not like the 205hp that comes in the 9-3 SE. The price you mention is crazy if in U.S. dollars, but more realistic if Candian currency??

As another poster mentioned, you can step into the 9-3 for less $$. I scanned the Boston Sunday Globe and found some numbers for comparison:

97 900SET 63K, $7995 another (same year) with 84K $6995
99 9-3, 22K, Saab certified w/warr. $14,900

For some reason Saab 900 and 9-3 take a bath on resale, so throw the blue book away and start negociating. You should be paying $7K - $11K for a 900SET based on mileage and condition.
