Find yourself a good independent. When the fuel pump in my '95 SEt quit in June, I had a friend's mechanic (Saabs and Volvos only) replace it--total damage was $430.00. (I would have had my own mechanic do it, but I was 200 miles from home). You are paying for dealer markup on the part and the inflated dealer labour rate. The best way to see if the pump is toast--turn the key in the ignition (don't try to start the car). Can you hear the fuel pump turn on?? (Will sound like a slight growl or rumble). If not, the pump's done. You may need to open the door and stick your head outside to hear this.
Good luck!!
