car won't start - rebuilt starter (long)

I took my car to my mechanic yesterday morning. After hearing my symptoms of inconsistent starting, he said that it was most likely the starter, and no the ignition switch. He said he would test the contacts to the starter to verify this assumption, and would rebuild the starter if necessary. When I picked up the car at 5:00 last night, he had rebuilt the starter for $200 CAD and charged for 1 hour labour at $50 CAD. That's way better than the Eeuroparts rebuilt startter for $420 CAD, or a Canadian distributor's price of $650 CAD. Not too bad. I started the car just fine and drove away.
That's when I noticed that my dash lights were dim. Then my ABS light came on. I was about 4 blocks away at this point and turned around. Then more warning lights came on, then my engine couldn't hold an idle. I got one block back toward my shop before the car died. Luckily I have free towing through a plan, so I got towed back to the garage and left my car there overnight.
My mechanic just called and said he had no problems with it this morning, but that is most likely due to the battery recovering over a cold night. He said he has taken the solenoid apart, and is checking for shorts in the system (the most likely cause of my complete electrical failure last evening). Hopefully everything will be back in order for me to go pick it up at lunch time. My fingers are crossed. I really like this mechanic, so I'm hoping that this will go well (no charge for extra day in the shop). I don't want to have to argue with him.
