Ya gotta do it yourself. Dealers make their profit at the service bay, and indies have (rightfully so) big time overhead in terms of rent, hourly rates for competent mechanics, health insurance, bennies, boat payments, etc.
In terms of labor costs, the biggest problem I see is that Saab owners are viewed as having deep pockets because of the high initial cost of the vehicle. Since a lot of Saab owners, especially BB members, have bought their vehicles used, and woefully depreciated, it's a tough nut to swallow. It's true for a lot of other vehicles also. Just look at the different labor rates posted at the same dealership for different makes of vehicles. Trust me, it costs the same to keep a Kia tech as it does a Saab tech, in the overall scheme of things. Yet, there might be a $12.50 differential in labor costs. Go figure.
