Check Engine Light etc. etc.

Okay,
A few general niggles at present ('97 900S 70k miles). Today on the way to work (25 miles, -15 deg. C) the check engine light came on. To recap recent history briefly:
1. I had an on-going slow coolant leak, traced to be coming from the head gasket.
2. 2 weeks ago, the car started hesitating, with no acceleration possible above 2,500-3,000 rpm in 4th or 5th gear. The plugs are 3 months old (NGKbp6evs). I checked them at the weekend and maybe they are a little on the dark side (too much gas?), but not excessively so.
3. 2 weeks ago, when cleaning up the engine (so I could better see any coolant leaks) I managed to get water where I shouldn't - car ran very rough for 20 mins and check engine light stayed on for 2 days.
4. I re-torqued the head at the weekend following the proper sequence and no more leak!! The check engine light did come on for 1/2 a day after I had done this, attributed to again, possibly getting water where I shouldn't have when cleaning up sprayed coolant.
I haven't yet checked the dist. cap, although the leads seem to be in good condition. Fuel filter may well need replacing.
Any thoughts on possible reasons for the check engine light coming on? Possibly related to any of the above?
