Another slow coolant leak question (long posting)

My '96 900S has been experiencing a slow coolant leak for the last several months. It has 74K miles on it. The dealer replaced the heater hoses a few months back, but about every three weeks, we get a low coolant level message. The car is running fine: no abnormal temperature readings or smells and no driveability issues.

Today I checked the oil and found no coolant at the bottom of the dipstick. I ran the engine for several minutes after I topped off the coolant and found a small puddle of coolant developing on a flat surface roughly midway between the steering servo and the brake fluid resevoir. I noticed several hoses run above that area, but I could not find a leak in any of them.

Does this sound like a serious problem or could it be minor? I plan to take it to the dealer this week for servicing and to have this problem attended to. I have read other posts, but I am really just learning the mechanical basics of the car (what parts are where, etc.), so I am not sure if anyone has experienced a leak in the same area of the engine. There is a metal part that looks like a cannister (couldn't find the part in the owner's manual schematic) with plated numbers attached to it to the lower right of where the leak is.

Thanks for any help you can provide! I *am* trying to learn!
