Ignition switch

My ignition switch died yesterday. The engine starts, but dies as soon as I release the key and the instrument panel goes black (ACC works, though).
I got it home by holding the key in a position somewhere between "starting mode" and "driving mode" all the way and shifting with my left hand...
Is it repairable or do I need to replace the switch? My workshop wants $260 to replace it, is it a DIY?
I have a '97 NG900.
(Two months ago I did the clutch, and in december the battery died. So far this month I've had to replace the trunk gas springs, and I think there's a hole somewhere in the exhaust system. And I thougt Saab's had at least some quality...)
