Went through a similar problem with the brake light. Look closely at which sections of the lamp assy are lit. Simply pull the brackets into the trunk compartment and see which lights are on. If it is not too bright out you can probably tell which portion of the assy is lit without pulling them out. If one of the bulbs on the brakelight is burned out the integrated electronic control module (IECM) will close the relay for the taillight as a redundancy feature.
As far as the coolant sensor, I am speculating, as I haven't run into the problem, but the first thing I would do is drain the resevoir below the sensor, ensure it is clean and not corroded (both the plug and piece that sits in the resevior. Replace if needed. It's signal feeds directly to IECM, so a constant voltage must be maintained to keep the signal to the computer- this voltage is supplied by the sensor being immersed in liquid. Also look at the wiring at the sensor, checking for a fray where it could momentarily ground/short, thus causing the SID alarm. The wire enters a common bundle pretty quick, so it is unlikely to be frayed between there and the IECM. To check the other end find the correct color wire attaching to the IECM (with any fore thought no two wires going to the same assy are the same colors). I have never layed eyes on the IECM. It is somewhere behind the fuse panel in the in driver compartment.
You can also check the cable continuity by voltmeter, but you will need to do this when the alarm is active, so it becomes pretty impracticle when you are dealing with an intermittant fault.
All the Best,
Rich
