I have a MY1998 900SE turbo. Maybe these instructions can be applied to your 2.3.
Run car for 10+ minutes as warm ATF flows better. Then shut car, jack up and drain ATF from drain bolt located at bottom of tranny [located slightly to the left center of the car]. Size is 22mm bolt, I think. You might have to use socket or closed end of wrench as space is tight around bolt.
Allow fluid to drain completely. New fluid is red in color. Used fluid is invariably darker. Also, drain bolt is magnetic, so clean off paste-like metal debris.
After draining, retighten to around 30 ft/lbs. Fill new ATF thru dipstick. ATF dipstick tube is larger than oil tube, as it is made to accommodate funnel. Remember to use quality ATF. If you can get it, try to use Lubro Moly ATF III. It's a fully synthetic high end fluid and is compatible with dino ATF. When pouring make sure funnel is clean and free of lint.
Pour in first 3 quarts and then run ATF warm and measure. Total refill is around 3.3 qts. Add slowly and don't overfill.
Note that total capacity is about 7 liters, so you are doing only partial change, which is better than not changing at all. I change often enough so that I am confident I have 100% LM fluid. In my opinion, my tranny runs smoother and stronger with newer synthetic fluid.
Good luck.
