From the touch, are you talking tires/tread, or rims? It might not be unusual for the front treads to heat up, since they build up friction/heat from turning, accelerating, etc. If your hub area heats up, that might be cause for concern, especially if you notice an acrid smell. Your brake calipers might be seizing, causing your front pads to burn. Have you experienced any pulling to one side when you apply the brakes? Any front pulsing/shimmy on braking? Usually, only one caliper will seize, unless you've ignored the symptoms for many miles until the second has decided to fail. Is one side warmer than the other?
