Had the original alternator replaced at 172K in my '95 SEt (extremely noisy bearings). Had a minor problem this winter with a strange voltage drop (which we believe was in the internal regulator). Got it replaced at no charge. The Bosch unit in my Saab has a lifetime warranty (with free roadside assistance, should my car break down because of the alternator). The unit itself wasn't cheap (right around $400) but with all of the driving we do, the lifetime warranty and the roadside assistance bits made the decision.
