Fuel System Cleaners... Posted by REM in Seattle [Email] (#4) [Profile/Gallery] (more from REM in Seattle) on Thu, 15 May 2003 07:19:37 In Reply to: Re: Apparently..., TML [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 14 May 2003 19:20:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Before spending money on fuel additives, always buy a top brand of gasoline (Chevron, Texaco, etc.) at a busy gas station (busy station means frequent turnover of gasoline inventory).
Then when you notice poor idle or sluggish acceleration, think of adding a fuel system cleaner. Be aware that the cheaper fuel additives like STP and Gumout are mainly kerosene type solvents instead of the more expensive, and more effective, fuel system detergents. These cheaper fuel additives just won't do the whole job.
Use a premium fuel system cleaner with a full range of fuel system detergents and deposit dispersants. I have used Chevron “Techron Concentrate” with good results, but the best fuel system cleaner I have found is “Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner” (http://www.redlineoil.com). I use 1 oz. of Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner per gallon of gasoline in a full tank of fuel, after each oil change (or 5,000 miles). Don’t refuel until the tank is a at 1/4 tank or less to let the cleaner do its job.
