Short Belt Config - How many miles you got on it ?

Well the alternator has got to be replaced (bad bearings) and the small idler pulleys I did about 10Kmi ago feel pretty loose and dry (spin very freely and can hear the balls in them) so I'm thinking of going to the short belt config when I do the alternator so I only need to bother with one idler. So...
How many miles on your short belt config ?
Which belt are you using (brand/model) and do your remember where you got it ?
It all seems pretty simple but I am just wondering if anyone is having unintended consequences after a few thousand miles or more. By not routing through the large idler a pretty long (or longer than before) section of belt is created which I would think would cause it to vibrate differently and possible more. Belt contact with the PS pump and small idler still seem pretty good. Since belt contact with the crank, AC comp, water pump and alternator are unchanged that all seems fine. The engineer in me tends to worry too much...huh ?
Thanks all.
