ISAT is a scanner tool that Saab had made for them before GM jumped in on the Saab market. It was made by RYMEDIKA and is still made by them to day, it's called pilot 3030S.

The latest soft and hardware that Saab had for the ISAT made it possible to use on OBD2 cars up to late 90. The ISAT is not nearly as user friendly as the Tech 2 and have only a few menu/command lines at the time, which makes it time consuming to use.

The Saab version of Tech 2 is fully compatible back down to 1990 using a 10 pin connector instead of the 16 pin OBD 2, but those early cars doesn't have much to look at anyway.
It wasn't until the NG900 in 94 that the car computer started to become "bi directional" of live data.
On the earlier models it was more of that you sent a command line and got a "frozen" answer back.

Before Tech 2, GM used a scanner called Tech 1 and that one was used in Europe too on the Opels.

Saab have been very slow (non existant) to update their hard cover books to accomendate Tech 2, the reason for that is that Saab abandoned the ISAT as late as 1996-97 in favor of the Tech 2 and at that point and time the CDs called WIS was already around the corner and those uses the Tech 2 as base in their language. The WIS cd gets updated several times a year.

Hope this helps a little

Anders
