You are smarter than me in that you try the cheap fixes first, very good. Do you get a CEL, I don't.
I think I always gapped my plugs to 0.039....which meant I didn't do anything because this is how they came out of the box. I will gap my new set to 0.035 or 0.036...gonna check the archives.

I think Anders told me that the fuel pump doesn't start to operate until the engine is turning over, so turning the ignition to the 'on' position may not pressurize the fuel system?
