My sending unit died on my 98 SET about a year ago. I like the safety of the sending unit but I do not like the apparent early failure rate of the sender. The only option is to replace the whole res. tank for the coolant. I bypassed my bad sender by taking a small gauge "alarm" wire 2 inches long and stripping about 1/8 of the insulation off the wire. Unplug the sender which is two wire and plug the stripped wire into each female side of the wire with the plug on it, this completes the circut and lets the car think things are OK. Now you will have no sender at all but you get ride of that anoying SID display "Low Coolant" that is not true. I am the type I raise my hood and check fluids often anyway. I will eventually replace my res. tank when I have an extra C-Note laying around.
