I tried the clamp but it didn't work, the first time. The hinge that holds the motor was so bent that I could not get the gears to mesh properly. (The motor is on a hinge so it can be manually disengaged in case of emergency, dead battery etc. If the hinge isn't bent, it in theory can be pushed back into the housing and the gears will mesh.)

I took the motor assembly out and with the motor out of the car, the bend in the hinge was readily apparent. I punched out the hinge pin, and attempted to take out the bend but it was to far gone. Being late in the day, I left the hinge pin out and used a hose clamp to secure the housing and motor. I then re-installed the assembly, aligned the arms on the top assembly (top down, arms at 12:00, see earlier posts) and insstalled the hose clamp. (Note I had to align the arms before meshing the gears, ie removed the clamp, did the alignment, then reseated the motor and clamped it down.)

Tops been up and down 2-3 times a day. For the first week I was freaking out that so simple a solution would work, but so far it's been factory perfect.
