I have seen other shops pushing a new plastic bushing in but manage to get several of the locking fingers on the wrong side of aluminum housing, trashing the bushing.
We also don't know if they actually installed a "new" bushing or just pushed the old one back. When this particular bushing gets old, several of the self locking fingers break of and finally the bushing pops out.
If you install the whole new shifter linkage system, you wont have any more problem (from that area at least).
