In essence, you are correct. The NG uses a re-worked Vectra platform. Howver, the Swedes extensively reworked the platform to get the NG to act and ride like a Saab. If you can get your hands on the Eric Dymock book "SAAB--Fifty Years of Achievement" you'll get an idea of what it took to get the NG on the road. If you don't mind reading factory propaganda, then get a copy of Anders Tunberg's book, "Saab 900--A Swedish Story", which is the "official" story of the NG. You might have to prowl Alibris or another used/out of print book emporium for either of these titles, because I think they're both out of print.
