to be honest, i would never trust the stuff coming off of ebay, especially with 'too good to be true' prices.

the Saab Trionic system is very sophisticated. Retarding the timing without taking into consideration other factors (rich/lean mixture, boost levels, valve clearance, etc.) will inevitably cause damage to your engine, right up to cracking the heads. Cutting corners with a cheap performance upgrade almost always leads to expensive repairs later.

There are a few groups that do Saab-specific engine management tuning, ranging from about $300-$700 for an upgraded ECU. Try Maptun, Abbott Racing, or Taliaferro (genuinesaab.com). What you're paying for is the professional research and adjustments that have been made to enhance performance without destroying your engine. I would also suggest investing in a sport exhaust and performance air filter to increase airflow and reduce backpressure. You'll notice in most of the ECU upgrades these are part of the package.

If you want more ECU info, check the performance board.

Treat your car well, and she'll reciprocate.
