What's with alternators lately? Mine is on its way out

According to eeuroparts.com, I just ordered a rebuilt alternator for the same years:

"(8549438) 90 amp Rebuilt alternator for any NG 900 94-98 4cyl, all 9-3 models 99- mid ‘00(‘00 up to VIN #Y2018000, #Y7013769), and mid ‘94(VIN # R1006712 on) -98 9000 with 90 amp alterntors. Core charge refunded upon reciept of old alternator. Saab original Bosch."

So yours (from the 9-3) should fit fine.

As mentioned in a previous post, I have severe CAR-ma. Just upped my $4,000 repair bill from the past 2 years to $4300 today. -Just replaced the alternator almost 2 years ago and within the past month, it has been whining, and progressively getting worse. I checked the voltage and its 1 volt under par, both with the car on and off. I checked with the (Chevy) dealer (who use to sell and service SAABS) to see about a warranty and it was 12mo/12k so I'm SOL. He quoted me $500 for a 90AMP BOSCH (thats $150 more than 2 years ago) just for the part and I didn't bother to ask what labor would have been at that price. EEUROPARTS.COM had one for $250, and I figured while I have the serpentine belt off, why not replace it, so thats another $27. Hopefully the current alternator will last till the weekend when installation of the new (refurb) one will take place.

Question is, how hard is it to replace an alternator and are there any special precautions? (No Haynes here) Looks like pulling it from under the car is the best way out. -Just replaced a turbo recently with the car on jack stands so hopefully this will work as well. Any tips appreciated!
