TBTC - now that I've seen the inside, what's the issue?

I cleaned the IAC valve and the TB this afternoon. Inside they looked more varnished than gunky. Anyway, having seen the inside of the TBTC now, I have to say I expected some obvious rough casting seams or sharp angles. What is it people try to remove when they do the Dremel "mod"? The pebbled interior surface? Seems like more turbulence would come from the gap between the hard pipe and the TBTC where the short hose connects them....
BTW - idle is smoother and go Cubbies!!
Also, my FOrge BPV seems happier now, installed "backwards."
