Your car is 9 years old, how many miles?? Any idea of what prior owner used for oil...if synthetic, I would stick with it. If not, your car may be too old with too many miles on it and switching to synthetic now may be something you will regret real soon, especially with the 2.3 motor which can have issues with sludge, sludge that will be suddenly floating around your motor when the synthetic start the "cleaning" process looking for something to plug up. Sometimes sludge is best left undisturbed.

I will state something not popular to the synthetic lovers here, but I know this to be true. I learned the hard way, twice.

I changed over to M1 synthetic on my 94 SE at around 100k, car started leaking oil a couple of days later. My 00 9-3 SE was just changed to M1 synthetic, and guess what...now I have 2 oil leaks a few days later. Man, I'm runnin' outta cardboard! Guess it washes the dino sludge away and voila...oil leaks!! On my other two cars, Audis...these cars used synthetic from day one (both were new) and no leaks, probably no sludge either. It is obvious the synthetic is better, it just may be unwise to switch over on a higher mileage car.

I used Castol 10w30 dino for years in my older Saabs and never had engine or turbo problems, couple of them saw 200k. So in spite of what you read on the BB, frequent oil changes (like...3k w/dino/5k w/synth) with good quality oil is more important than anything else.
