Here's what I found after finally getting under the hood for a while on the '97 SET-
Changed plugs- old ones were 7's gapped to .045-.047, new ones are 6's gapped to .035-.036. After a quick run around town all I think I noticed was a slightly smoother running motor- more vrrrrrroooooooom, less dddrrrrroooooooom. Can't say as if I felt a performance increase.
Checked bpv- checked small hose coming out of end visually for cracks/deterioration and didn't see cause for alarm. Checked bpv by blowing into either end to see if I could hear leaks. I have no idea if this is how you check this thing, but I felt and heard no leaks.
I dumped a bottle of Techron into the tank
I pulled the hose off the wastegate actuator and did a mild second gear run down the street and back- Yowzah!!!!!!!! That's a hoot and a half!!!! Yes I was careful with the throttle and didn't go nuts with it. Boost in 1st seemed average, but I wasn't paying much attention because I was nervous about hurting the motor (read: timid) and the emphasis on this BB was to pay attention to second. 2nd was very easy to get boost into red, at one point 2/3rd's of the way through red- and no detectable sign of fuel cut before I lifted. I wasn't able to watch rpm but I know I never exceeded 2/3rd's throttle to attain that much boost.
So the questions- It seems like the system holds boost, why can't I get over 1/2 way with the WG connected? Base boost off and WG arm needs adjusting? APC thingy failing and needs replacing (maybe with MBC+A)? Any thoughts on these new observations?
