I believe either Roger Podob down in St. Mary's County MD or Jim Miller out in Jefferston, VA are our furthest-south club members (not counting our member from Australia!). :o)

We have had several events down Jim's way, and we will likely attend some events down in Petersburg.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but starting your own club is a TON of work. We're still getting off the ground, and we've been at it for 3 years! If you decide to go that route, hopefully we can be of some assistance. The major annual east coast event is Saabs at Carlisle, hosted by the Central Penn Saab Club. If not for CPSC, WASSAAB would probably not be here! Great bunch of people... tons of fun and tons of help.
