Hello everyone:
150 in 2004? Get ready For SAABs at Carlisle 2004
We all look forward to this time of year, with the 2004 car show and SAAB Event season almost upon us; it’s time to start thinking about what else? SAABs at Carlisle 2004. Sadly however, we learned yesterday that Carlisle Events Co-founder, Chip Miller has passed away at the age
of 61. Chip, his partner Bill Miller and the entire Carlisle staff have been instrumental in helping us build the event. We want to honor the memory of Chip Miller this year with another Club Participation Award and a donation to The Chip Miller Foundation.
The Central Penn SAAB Club, with the support of their friends from The Washington DC SAAB Club (WASSAAB), The New Jersey SAAB Owners Club, The New England SAAB Association, and the New York SAAB Owners Club, will converge at The 16th Annual Carlisle Import Kit
and Repli-car Nationals, May 21-23, 2004, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
With the support of several area dealers, including Lehman SAAB, Kelly SAAB, Eisenhauer SAAB, MP Performance LLC, Hunt Valley SAAB and Sports Car Service, and vendors Viking Wheel Service and State of Nine, we will again host The People’s Choice Awards. SAABs will be parked on the show field by model type; Aeros on Aero Avenue, Viggens on Viggen Valley Road and so on. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, and the best part; lunch provided free of charge on Saturday, with only one small catch. You must
complete your voting ballot: No Votes, No Vittles.
This year in order to participate, you must be registered through us to ensure that your car(s) count in the official participation contest. If you register directly with Carlisle, it has become increasingly difficult to track down every last car for the vote tally. If you want to park
with us and enjoy the SAAB festivities, this isn’t too much to ask. Other regular features of the event will include a Friday evening dinner, Saturday afternoon tour through the scenic rolling countryside, and a dinner stop along the way. SAABs at Carlisle T-Shirts will be available, with original artwork by John Webber. The 2004 artwork will feature a convertible this year.
Registrations are now being accepted for Saabs at Carlisle 2004. We have installed and tested the registration and payment pages. Once you have
completed the registration form, it will be sent electronically to us, and you will receive payment instructions. You can either mail us a check, or utilize the preferred method, Paypal, to pay securely on-line.
We must have your registration no later than April 20th in order to process everything and have it to Carlisle by April 22nd. Please register early and minimize the last minute chaos. This has become no small event over the past 2 years, with over 100+ cars and nearly 200 people.
We have relied on our prize raffle to offset some of the expenses, which blossomed as well. Things like name badges, awards and even equipment rental like tables have been paid for out of our members pockets. New this year will be nicely prepared plaques for First Place in each
Category. Second and Third will receive nice certificates as in years past.
We are fortunate to be blessed with very giving and charitable members like Mike Beare, Garry Grimes (paid over $100 for the name badges last year), Ron Nichipor (paid for the dash cards), George Basehore, Jim Verga, John Sizer, Tom Cox, John Webber, (who did I miss?), and who have
come forward with their wallets when needed, to support this event. I can't list myself here, mainly because Diane will be reading this, and we certainly don't want to tip her off as to how much I've personally spent over the past 5 years!) So with this said, we have added a $5 charge (per registration) this year to help offset these expenses. As an example, let's say you are registering 4 cars, and 2 adults. (A total of $40: $15, $10, $5 and $5 for the cars goes to Carlisle Productions. CPSC will keep $5). If you are registering 1 car and 1 adult: (A total of $20; $15 goes to Carlisle Productions and $5 goes to CPSC). If you have any questions on this, please e-mail me and I'll gladly answer them.
We are working on few more changes to the driving tour on Saturday. Our dinner stop will still be at the Deer Lodge, located in Mount Holly Springs, PA and has been well received by everyone since we started using them in 2002. With the destruction of the covered bridge last year,
changes to the route will be necessary. We will likely not run to Little Buffalo State Park, as we have for the past few years, but more likely will head to Kings Gap State Park, which offers a really nice winding ascent which offers great panoramic views of the valley. The route
should be another crowd pleaser again this year.
Look for more information to follow in the next few days. We will keep you updated on we progress towards 150 SAABs this year and try for our third participation award in 3 years. Look for some stiff competition again from our friends driving Fieros, Bimmers and Volvos once again.
