How exactly can clay, "ruin your paintjob by repair"? There's is nothing of a chemical nature in detailing clay that can damage a paint job. The abrasives in clay are much less aggressive than in a product like a heavy cut cleaner.
Even if you rub a dry clay bar on your dry paint the worst that can happen are a few light scratches and a lot of clay smudges. 30 seconds with a light scratch remover and its like it never happened.
I won't go as far as to say clay is harmless but from my vantage point I see nothing in clay that can created lasting damage and I've been using this stuff since it came out.
