Dash treatment

i am sure this will spark some debate, but i am looking for the best dash treatment. i am more interested in adding to the life of the dashboard, than in making it uber shiny.
i am one of those who tends to steer clear of armor-all. my father in law used it religiously on the 85 i now own, and that dash was destroyed when i got it (i have since replaced it with a crack free dash). my 89 dash had some cracks when i bought it, but not bad. this past winter, being exceptionally harsh (read cold), actually caused a bizarre crack down the middle between the windsheild and the indent on top.
long story short; i don't want my 89 to get worse, and i want to keep my 85 in perfect shape. tips, insight, reccomendations are greatly appreciated.
thanks,
pete
