I spent a good 5 hours yesterday meticulously detailing the outside of my 1997 900SE Taladega. She currently has 144K miles (240K km).
Procedure was as follows:
1. Washed car with liquid soap (regular palmolive)
2. Clayed car (Mother's clay bar)
3. Washed again with palmolive
4. All window trim, rubber, and mouldings (bumper and side) treated with Mother's back to black. - Allow it to dry and re-apply.
5. Polished body and even windows with McGuire's Gold Glass Wax/Polish
6. Wheels hand washed with Simoniz rim cleaner and then sprayed with McGuires tire dressing for a shiny look. The grill and grill fins were also sprayed with this stuff.
7. Tires treated with silver tinted tire dressing
8. One final hand buff and we're done.
I might note that I also cleaned and waxed all the door jams, trunk jams, pillars, etc. Basically, any area of exposed paint I could get my hands on was polished.
Earlier this week I had the 'dent clinic' pull all the dings and dents that were previously on the body. There were about 10 in total. Also, had the spoiler repainted and the trunk hatch, which had a nasty ding. I think at this point, I can truly say the outside is in showroom condition. Now, next weekend I do the inside!
Quattro.
