Towel scratches and wax job at detailer.

I planned on getting a wax done for a while. I can't do this myself because I don't have Yesterday I did a quick wash at a relatives house in NJ, I have a soft wafer (microfiber?) towel that I use to dry off the hard water. I did a walk around and discovered scratches (!!!!) in a few places on my baby. Long, shallow, thin scratches, probably from dust in the towel...I fell to my knees wailing and started pounding the pavement..well no, not really. I did however drive to a detailer/car wash in town. I chatted with the owner who gave me two options...
a) $45 for wash/wax - but he said that this would not get rid of the swirl marks, spider scratches and those
b) $60 for a full external detail - compound wax, orbital polish, the whole deal...
This seems like a fair price to me but I know nothing about detailing/waxing. I plan on learning one day when I have a garage and a place to work on my vehicle. What do you guys think? I bought the car two months ago and I washed it a few times since but the paint feels "uneven" to touch when drying. Should he (will he; is it normal procedure to)use a clay bar on the vehicle before he takes orbital to surface?
Any tips appreciated. I'm a bit nervous about the appointment scheduled for next weekend; but I know someone that works there so I believe my car will be taken care of.
Thanks,
Tom
