It's petroleum based but dries completely in about 10 - 15 minutes when it can be buffed. From what I can tell, it desolves the wax residue - the white ghosting from wax disappears as soon as PoorBoy's touches it. It seems to permeate rubber and plastic but it appears to do so less on black painted trim ( it does make the trim look darker and richer, though, so it may penetrate the paint somewhat.. just not as deeply ). It doesn't wash off with water - water beads up on it and doesn't leave spots after drying. I guess one could cut it with heavy soap scrubing but with normal car washing, it hangs in there. If I happen to get it on the painted surface around the trim, I wipe it off immediately to avoid problems with the wax I want to leave on the car.
I've used Poor Boy's on my wife's 2000 Honda Civic as well as on my SAAB - her car is white with black plastic trim. The trim was faded to an overall dull grey and one application of Poor Boy's restored it to deep black, it looked new again ... I did this about three months ago and the trim still looks new.
