So I'm on the subway, and I'm looking at some printed out posts here on various posts on Zaino, and an onlooker started inquiring based on being nosey with my papers in hand. We got to talking about the process, and he mentioned that he used Zaino on his early model C4 Vette, with the exception of the clay, which he said he used some actual modelers clay from the art store, for roughly a fifth of the cost. He went on talking about how anyone could save paying $15 - $30(think griots) on the clay itself by just buying fine cut synthetic clay from any art store. Anyone try this? Wouldn't surprise me if the detailing industry was this heavily marking up the price on clay products... Oh, and for the record, he does still use store bought water based cleaners as his lubricant for the claying... Pictures were pretty stunning, and of course he had pics in his wallet - and note none of his wife and kids. =) Thoughts anyone? I was about to drop some coin on the Griots stuff since you get enough to use with a buffer in thier can, but perhaps this is a cheaper option.
