the brush I *should* have mentioned was a Boar's hair brush...quite soft and non-abrasive. It's what I and many other diligent detailers use. Not cheap, but for a new car? Definitely the way to go. You must have thought I meant something like a BBQ grill brush, right???

And with regard to the claim that sheepskin is a viable option...what about all the granular particles that remain lodged in the mitt after the very first swipe across the paint? Unless the surface is exceptionally clean, aren't there traces of material in the mitt? Isn't the color a bit darker (how about LOTS darker?) Isn't that stuff potentially abrasive? I shudder at the thought...that's why a Boar's head brush is best.

Oh, and I would agree that a sponge ain't any better than your mitts. they both trap particles, and the inability to get those dang itty-bitty thangs out are precisely the issue.
