That's a huge lost opportunity for that crowd

The Import Custom Compact crowd is a HUGE market, as acknolwedged by all of the major aftermarket parts manufacturers/resellers. Every cover of the Summit catalog I get has a Honda or something on it, instead of the old GTOs or Hot Rods that made Summit famous. This group spends tons of dough, and some of them are really creative. I would remove the majority of the show cars from the "ricer" group, but that's just a personal perspective. SEMA is a huge draw every year, but I don't think they have the crime and craziness that Carlisle has endured. In any case, a lot of what this crowd is about it the "lifestyle" of being a tuner. I know that when I was 17 (not so long ago!) that I had no clue what it meant to have an automotive lifestyle. I'm guessing lot of these kids don't either. They see the Fast & The Furious and want to take their cars and their lifestyle to that level.
A lot of auto racing programs are trying to provide the legal outlets for this kind of behavior. All of the drag strips in my area, and others around the country, provide Import Only nights, which include the car show on top of the races, competing for $ usually. Carlisle was along that lines, and it's a huge disappointment to me that this had to happen for them. This is especially bad for those who show up to display their creativity in a sane and civic (pun intended) fashion.
Carlisle was not ready for this crowd, but the crowd was not ready for Carlisle, either.
That said, see y'all there in two weeks!
