I suggest the 5W40 Rotella Synthetic from US WalMart stores. It is a good group III diesel oil with a heavy duty addative package. It has the lastest spark engine oil specifications. You can pick up gallon jugs for $12 - $14 each which is a really good price point.
With your mature engine and its larger running clearances, you may very well find that it runs smoother. Purolator PureOne filters are better than run of the mill, and cost a bit more. Check to see if they have one for your application.
