If you're financing, than newer cars aren't really such a bad idea. What's better, a 10 year old car for 3 years financing or a 5 year old car for 5 year financing, if the payments are the same? The former is 13 year old car paid off, the latter a 10 year old car upon payoff. You can carry that theme right up to a new car at 0% which means a 2003 9-3 Linear can be had for only around $440 a month.

Neither is the answer to a 900S or 9000. I'd stay with a 96 and up 900SE, particularly with the automatic or maybe a higher mileage 9-5.

Older low mileage cars vs newer high mileage cars is a dilemma. I'd rather have a newer looking, what everyone sees, car with higher mileage that no one sees, that has good service records.

I'm with jc, go turbo, and with Eric Law, keep looking.
