SS, I think you need not worry. These Nissans and that V6 especially are absolutely tough and reliable compared to virtually all other makes. I drove my '90 300ZX ( same motor) 6500 miles in 2001 from Seattle to Wisconsin then to NY and back in 3 weeks - not a hiccup! The car had 150k on it when I did that. My fuel pump "hums" and even "moans" occasionally too, but never a problem.
I would say it's too early for the timing belt, but for peace of mind get the fuel pump replaced. Spend a few hundred now for new drive belts, hoses, a full lube job, maybe cooling system flush, a/c check & charge, and a full inspection from a good Nissan or Japanese indie shop. (The dealer will sell you more than you really need, IMHO.) Have a wunnerful trip!!
