Have you looked at the pictures? Clearly the Aztek designers got a second chance.
The Maxx is on a longer, wider version of Epsilon. It's not a hatchback in the sense we know it, but a chopped tail wagon. I venture to say the 9-3 wagon will have as much cargo room (and a similar overall length), and even a similar backlight angle. So who's a hatchback?
Some features to watch: sliding (for and aft) and variable tilt back seating, allowing the kind of passenger room we had in the 9000 but miss in the current 9-5. As for the power, expect a choice between the Saab/ecotec (non-turbo'd) 2.2 4 cylinder, perhaps punched out to 2.5L, and the latest iteration of the 60 degree pushrod V-6, this one punched out to 3.5L. We've seen the 2.5L 4 fitted with a 42 volt belt driven starter/generator at the North American International Auto Show.
