Actually what I mean is if one can follow the flexible service indicators on some cars. My parents are soon to get a new car, a Mercedes (couldn't be convinced to get a SAAB). I think the indicator is set for oil changes every 8,000-15,000 mi depending on how one drives and the light goes on in two years if the criteria aren't met.
The indicator tabulates driving conditions, not analyzes the oil. The specifications are to use Mobil 1 or other fully synthetic oil.
Is it safe to listen to the idiot light. The trouble is that they don't keep a track of maintenence much. I think that the most one could wait is 1 year. They drive 5,000 mi. per year, 85% city, 5% of it in stop and go traffic.
