The way I understand it, the SPG options were offered in '85 to emphasize the potency of the new 16-valve turbo engine. The SPG options were pretty much the cosmetic body cladding, 3-spoke wheels, and I think sway bars (which weren't standard in the turbo models until '86) and possibly vented front disks (they might have come with all '85 turbos.)
In '86, the SPG options were purely cosmetic (body cladding, 3-spoke wheels, special color paint and leather), and all running gear was the same as every other '86 Turbo.
I think that the "roadholding kit" was included in '87, and later models started getting tweaked ("red box") APC systems.
That said, I still like my '86 SPG- particularly because I get to upgrade all of the fun performance stuff to my own specifications...
